Delay to beginning

When I agreed to lead Conquest this year I didn’t know I was going to have a bike accident on August 15th and subsequent shoulder surgery (ask me about my steel plates) that would slow me way down. Partly due to this recovery and talking with John I decided to delay the start of Conquest to November 8th. Since my accident occurred on Our Lady’s feast day I had no doubt that I should offer this cross i have to carry for all of you, your sons, and the upcoming Conquest year.

I’ll announce a new registration evening date in a week or two. For now please pray for all who will participate this year.

We have three dads so far to help out. If you can help that would be great, please let me know.

God bless you!

Getting Closer, Still Need Volunteers

We’re close to a month from our first official meeting and still need dads to step forward to lead or assist. I’m planning on mentoring some of you to lead the father son group since I’ve lead that group for a couple years. Really it’s a couple principles to keep in mind but the program works!

I’m planning on taking the Juniors but still need some dads to help out there. Even if it’s for one meeting or one small part of the meeting that would be great. We also need leaders for Junior launch.

I’m excited about helping run Conquest because it gives me a clear way to combat the destructive influence our society is having. Marriage and family are under attack in our world so let’s give our kids a place where we teach them to be friends with Christ. With Him in the boat the storms won’t prevail! He has already won the battle!

So please step up and let me know you want to help so I can have John move forward with registering the group. Please let me know soon, thanks!

In Christ,

Tim Norton

P.S. Please inform anyone who might be interested, thanks and God bless!

Welcome To A New Conquest Year!

Hello all in Christ,

I’m excited to welcome you to a new Conquest year and share with you a couple of the changes that are happening this year!

I want to thank John Sanderson who has given so much for several years and made Conquest possible. He’s been the one person who almost never misses and really has held down the group! John is still taking care of registration this year as well as other roles but he asked me to take over as the director to hopefully free up a little time for him. I’m excited to take this role and I hope I can do as well as John!

Another change is that the LC Fathers and Brothers won’t be able to join us every week as they have been for the last couple years. Due to consolidation of some of the houses, the resources are spread kind of thin so we have to thank God for the contributions made by all of the Legionaries through the years as well as their prayers! Let’s pray also for all of them, asking God to help them in the work they are doing.

We will need help from some dads this year if we are going to be able to provide a good experience for the kids. I’m going to be refreshing my safe environment training at St. Thomas More on August 31st at 7pm, and I invite you to join me for the training if you have any inclination to help this year, even if you are not sure. Maybe you want to help with the snack, or with the games, or with the lessons. We need leaders and we need people to assist them. So just come and do the training and at least you will be eligible to help out!

Tom Satkowski has offered to lead the ‘Fathers’ part of the Father-Son Program this year. For the last couple years we didn’t have this and since Tom offered to lead this, it seems a great opportunity to bring it back! Tom is going to be taking the dads through appropriate reflections on fatherhood and manhood using some of the same readings as the sons will be reading at the same time. Hopefully this will also encourage good discussion between fathers and sons.

Conquest is beginning on September 27th for dads and boys, and will be on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00pm as it has been. Registration meeting for the parents will be on September 13th in McAllen Hall. You can see the whole calendar here. I used to maintain it and will be doing so again, and I hope you find it helpful. I’ll also be posting latest news and information there as well as surprise cancellations so be sure to bookmark it and visit often.

I’ll be sharing more as time goes on and we get closer to the beginning of the Conquest year. If you have any questions or have any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks and God bless!

Tim Norton
